Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

Center For New Medicine uses Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) as one of the integrative treatment plans for our patients. Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy is a well-established treatment for cancer and a wide variety of diseases. Through breathing pure oxygen in a pressurized room, patients lungs’ can gather up to three times more oxygen than would be possible breathing pure oxygen at normal air pressure. The patient’s blood carries this pure oxygen throughout the body to stimulate the release of growth factors and stem cells. The release of the stem cells and growth factors promote healing. Center For New Medicine’s Oxidative Preconditioning Therapy is to give patients hyperbaric oxygen sessions combined with Nutraceuticals and Trental (Pentoxifylline), to augment HBOT’s effect. Trental is FDA-approved for the improvement the flow of blood by decreasing its viscosity (making it “thinner”), increasing blood flow through the

The Preferred HBOT Treatment Center

Dr. Donald Jolly-Gabriel is the Executive Director of the South Bay Hyperbaric Center (SBHB) for Oxygen Treatment at Center For New Medicine. Prior to creating the SBHBOT, Dr. Jolly-Gabriel was the founder of the hyperbaric oxygen therapy program at Whitaker Wellness and Director of Hyperbaric Medicine for 10 years. Dr. Jolly-Gabriel has worked along side Dr. David Hughes in the UK and Dr. Richard A. Neubauer in the US, both pioneers in this field of Hyperbaric Oxygen Medicine. Dr. Jolly-Gabriel was commissioned by Dr. Neubauer to create the Richard A. Neubauer Research Institute for the advancement of Hyperbaric Oxygen Medicine of which Dr. Jolly-Gabriel is currently the President. South Bay Hyperbaric Center at the Center For New Medicine has strived to develop and maintain the leading clinical center for hyperbaric therapy. Unlike many hyperbaric therapy centers, our patient treatment staff is composed of licensed medical professionals. Under the same roof as our hyperbaric treatment systems are leading specialty physicians and state-of-the-art acute critical care facilities.

How Does HBOT Work?

HBOT treatments take place in a clinical setting at our Irvine center. Our FDA 510(k) clearance treatment systems provide a comfortable lay down or sitting environment. Patients breathe pure oxygen while the treatment system is at 2 to 3 times that of normal atmosphere. At this pressure, oxygen, which is normally delivered to tissues via the hemoglobin in red blood cells, dissolves in all of your body’s fluids – the plasma, cerebrospinal fluid in the brain and spinal cord, and lymph. It is then easily transported to all tissues, even those with a poor blood flow. Up to 15 times the oxygen will be delivered to tissues than under normal conditions. The typical treatment session lasts around an hour, during which you can watch a movie, listen to music, read, or simply relax. We work with your primary care physician to customize a treatment regimen for your specific needs, typically from 5 to 40 sessions.

Benefits

Chemotherapeutic agents attack cancer cells largely by acting as potent oxidants, but they do not distinguish between malignant and normal cells, and thus damage healthy as well as cancer tissue. Repeated HBOT Therapy sessions prior to chemotherapy may ensure that the body’s normal tissues are in much better condition to cope with the oxidative stress imposed by the subsequent chemotherapy. Thus, the intent of Oxidative Preconditioning Therapy is to make chemotherapy more tolerable for the patient while simultaneously improving the ability of the cancer treatment to destroy the tumor.

HBOT has proven to minimize scarring, reduce swelling and shorten the recuperation period of many patients undergoing cosmetic surgery. When the skin is damaged or burned during procedure, the capillaries supplying oxygen to the skin allow fluid into the surrounding tissues where it causes swelling and pain. Inflammation decreases blood flow to the injured area and also interferes with proper alignment of the severed edges resulting in scars and infection. Our staff will work with your Cosmetic Surgeon to design the optimum regimen specifically for the procedure you are undertaking with your skin and general health.
